11:50 AM, Downtown Athletic Club
RACISM STUDY CIRCLES:
The Youth Connection
- Rosalia Marquez, Multicultural Liaison, Springfield Public Schools
- Michelle Rodriquez, Thurston High School Senior
Since 2003, City Club and its Racism Subcommittee have provided opportunities for adult members of our community's varied cultures to meet and talk together through Racism Study Circles. In 2006, the Study Circles model began to be implemented for high school youth, particularly at Thurston High School.
Our January 12 program will feature Rosalia Marquez, Multicultural Liaison for Springfield Public Schools, and Michelle Rodriquez, Thurston High School senior and an experienced participant in Study Circles and Advanced Study Circles. They will tell us about the Youth Study Circles program as it is evolving at Thurston.
How did the process get started? How has it evolved in its first year? What are the rewards and the challenges? What comes next?
First Question will be asked by Colt Gill, Superintendent of Bethel School District.

After the program:
This was a very interesting program and I wish to know more. I am a Counselor at Wolf Creek Job Corps out of Glide, OR and this sounds like something that would greatly benefit our students. How can I learn more from the Thurston Program? Could I get in touch with Rosalia Marquez to learn more?
Thanks, Patti
