The Bishop Award, given to persons or
organizations that have enriched Eugene's
cultural life, will be awarded to Judy Wenger.
Wenger has taught theatre at Roosevelt
Middle School since 1983, staging
Shakespearean comedies, tragedies, and over
30 musicals. In 2004, she won the Most
Inspirational Teacher Award from the U.S.
Presidential Scholar's Program. The Stone
Soup comic-strip character Ms. Wingit is
patterned after her.
The Fentress Award recognizes arts
groups for enriching Eugene's cultural future.
The 2007 award goes to KWAX-FM, with special recognition
for the station's music director Caitriona Bolster. Bolster has
been with the station since 1986. Listener-funded KWAX
broadcasts its classical music format to more than 40,000
listeners each week.
Eugene mayor Kitty Piercy will present the awards. The
featured speaker will be Frances Bronet, an educator, practicing
designer, and advocate for cross-disciplinary education who
became the Dean of the School of Architecture and Allied
Arts in 2005.
A quartet of musicians from the University of Oregon will
provide music during lunch.
This program was coordinated by Laurel Fisher and Joan Kerns.
