GIRLS AT RISK: What the
Community Should Know
Cynthia Pappas, CEO, Planned Parenthood, SW Oregon
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Ms. Pappas will be replaced by Doris Towery, the Development Director of United Way of Lane County and a member of the 'Girls at Risk' coalition, as today's featured speaker.
Who are the girls at risk in our community? Cynthia Pappas, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southwest Oregon and a spokesperson for a very committed group of citizens, will identify this much neglected and very vulnerable part of our community's population.
More importantly, she will inform us of just what a coalition of area leaders representing such organizations as the United Way, the Girl Scouts, Zonta, CASA, Looking Glass, the Lane County Department of Youth Services, Ophelia's Place, Women in Philanthropy, Oregon Community Foundation, the Haugland Foundation and, of course, Planned Parenthood can and will do to focus attention and resources upon a problem that has long -- much too long -- received only cursory attention.
Ms. Pappas' comments will remind us all that the old saw "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" has a very apt application to this issue.
Program coordinator: J. Thibeau
Our first question will be asked by Mark Harbaugh, Student Volunteer of Bethel Teen Court.
