"Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere,
diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies,"
said Groucho Marx. Because we know this couldn't apply to
Oregon, we've asked Sen. Floyd Prozanski-D and Rep. Bruce
Hanna-R to report on the Legislature's recent emergency
session. How much was accomplished in such a brief time?
Which critical topics fell through the cracks or will be addressed
next year? Was partisanship put aside at last? And could the
emergency session serve as a model for annual legislative sessions?
Rep. Bruce Hanna is president and CEO of Douglas County
Bottling Company. Since 2004, he has represented District 7,
which includes parts of Lane and Douglas counties. As well as
being the House Minority Leader, he has served on the Ways
and Means Committee and its various subcommittees for his
entire legislative tenure. He is also the vice chair of the Oregon
State Hospital Patient Care Committee.
Sen. Floyd Prozanski is a lawyer and municipal prosecutor.
He has been in the Legislature for 11 years and, as a state senator
since 2003, represents District 4, which includes southern and
eastern Lane County. Most recently, he has served on the
Senate committees for Commerce and Labor, Environment
and Natural Resources, Judiciary, Court Facilities, and Court
Technology.
