Friday April 18th is the date to come to City Club of Eugene
and find out all you ever wanted to know about the Democratic
candidates running for Oregon Secretary of State.
Four well-known, highly experienced Oregon Senators are
running against each other for the pleasure of serving as Oregon
Secretary of State. Each one has years of public service experience
and lots to offer. It may be challenging for voters to see the
distinctions. The best way to see the differences and judge the
candidates is to have them appear together.
City Club members and their guests have the rare opportunity
to meet all the candidates and ask them tough questions. This
is our chance to make our vote for Secretary of State an informed
choice -- not based on secondhand assumptions and press
coverage.
This race is expected to be won in the primary. The Secretary
of State administers seven major divisions within the executive
branch of government in Oregon.
The office of the Secretary of State was established at statehood
in 1859. The Secretary of State is second in line to the Governor.
Well-respected Oregon Governors Barbara Roberts, Tom McCall,
and Mark Hatfield each served as Secretary of State before they
were elected Governor. Come and meet the candidates.
This is not a standard debate. We anticipate a forum-style,
lively exchange among candidates and then plenty of time for
City Club questions.
