EUGENE & BEYOND:
Sustaining the Arts
- Henry Fogel, President and CEO, League of American Orchestras
Henry Fogel will share his thoughts on the state of classical music in the United States and what orchestras and other arts organizations are doing to build stronger connections with their communities. He will also (perhaps with an assist from Roger Saydack, chair of the last three Eugene Symphony's conductor search committees) discuss what might be the process to find a successor to Giancarlo Guerrero.
Henry Fogel is one of the best known and most influential orchestra administrators in the United States. He has served as president and CEO of the 950-orchestra member League of American Orchestras since 2003. Previously, he served for 18 years as chief executive of the Chicago Symphony and before that as executive director of the National Symphony Orchestra (1981-85) and orchestra manager of the New York Philharmonic (1978-81).
You can tune in to "Collector's Corner" on KWAX-FM (91.1) every Tuesday at 8 p.m. to hear selections from Fogel's wonderful and enormous collection of historical classical recordings.
Our first question will be asked by Steve Stone, UO Professor Emeritus, Music, and a member of Emerald City Jazz Kings.
