Brian Obie’s grand project; 5th Street Market district expansion to the west.
Casey Barrett, VP of Obie Companies, will discussion details of expansion in the 5th Street Market area. It is one of the largest developments in downtown Eugene in recent history. Brian Obie, President & CEO of Obie Companies is also expected to be present to help answer questions. Brian Obie, a former Mayor of Eugene and owner/developer of 5th Street Market properties including Inn at the 5th hotel, is the prime mover behind this new development. Obie Companies expects to start construction this fall on a $60 million expansion to build additional retail and residential on properties west of 5th Street Market at 5th & High. The ambitious project will transform parking lots west of Pearl Street between 6th Ave and 5th Ave to housing, retail and an additional boutique hotel with 82 rooms. More than 100 high-end residential units and up to 50 affordable-income rental units are expected to be built as part of this project. The Obie company is working on a partnership with Homes for Good, the low-income housing agency for Lane County, to include a 5-story building with 50 low-rent apartment units and ground floor retail across Oak Street as part of the overall development project.
