The Mayor serves as the City’s political head and chairperson of the council and is elected by the City at large on a nonpartisan ballot for a four- year term. The Mayor is the formal representative of the City and presides over City Council meetings but has no vote except in the case of a tie. Lucy Vinis is the incumbent. Thomas Hiura is a former New York City school teacher and an independent journalist, hip hop musician, film maker, and author, who received the 2011 Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce Future First Citizen Award and the Bill Gates Millennium Scholarship. They have served as a legislative intern with Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon and the Oregon League of Conservation Voters.
Stacey Westover is a Direct Support Professional for Inner Potential, LLC, a Medicaid provider agency serving individuals who experience a disability in Lane County.
Matthew Yook is a free-lance data analyst, advocate, and activist for a Green New Deal, criminal justice reform, and “bottom up” housing. He previously served as the Treasurer of the Lane Community College Student Government.
Zondie Zinke is a Social Services Assistant for Looking Glass Community Services in Eugene. Looking Glass provides a variety of social services focusing on youth.
Joel Korin, Past President of City Club, will moderate this program. Candidates were allotted equal time for presentations and asked the same questions.
