March’s Community Spotlight focuses on South Eugene Senior Connor Gabor. Connor is the founder and chair of Young Democrats of Lane County, a board member of Planned Parenthood, and a paid fellow for the DeFazio for Congress campaign. He was one of 19 high school students in the local Planned Parenthood’s REV Youth Leadership Program. He got his start in politics last January as a campaign volunteer in support of Measure 101, raising taxes to support healthcare coverage. Afterwards, he served as an intern with the Democratic Party of Lane County, where he learned about grassroots organizing. He then launched a club at school, the Young Democrats Union, and enlisted Eugene’s other high schools to launch Young Democrats of Lane County. In addition to being a local activist, Connor also writes a monthly editorial column for the Register-Guard.
Community Spotlight is a City Club gathering in which local leaders participate in informal interviews about their lives and work. Tsunami Bookstore hosts the event on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 6 pm. Light refreshments are available, and the public is encouraged to attend. There is no admission charge for Community Spotlight, but guests are invited to contribute to help cover the costs.
