The term “Missing Middle” was coined by Daniel Parolek of Opticos Design, Inc. in 2010 to define a range of multi-unit or clustered housing types compatible in scale with single-family homes that help meet the growing demand for walkable urban living. There is a shift in housing demand to smaller and less expensive housing both for the younger and older segments of Eugene. With the median listing price for housing now at $285,000 our housing supply is becoming more and more out of sync with that demand. Josh Skov will explain the issue, the challenges that exist in providing Missing Middle and suggest the steps we might take to provide the types of housing that folks are seeking.
